R.E. Dodson was a three-year football letterman and helped TCU claim back-to-back Southwest Conference titles in 1958 and 1959. Dodson led TCU in rushing in 1960 as well as pacing the ground attack for the 1957 WOGS squad. Dodson also handled the kicking duties and was the NCAA's top extra point kicker (20-21) in 1959, winning the Frog Club Golden Shoe Award. In 1960, Dodson kicked the winning point to top Southern California by one point while kicking six extra points in a victory over Texas A&M. Overall, Dodson tallied 44 total points in the Southwest Conference during his career.
