Playing during an era in which varsity play was allowed beginning with a player’s sophomore season, Dick O’Neal enjoyed his greatest success during his first varsity campaign with the Frogs where he averaged 28.2 points per game, which ranked fourth among all NCAA Division I players that season.

O’Neal followed up a stellar sophomore campaign by averaging 24.7 and 18.9 points per game, respectively, during his junior and senior seasons. The former TCU standout concluded his career by averaging 23.9 points per game.

A second round selection in the 1957 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, O’Neal ranked fourth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,723 points and sixth in rebounds with 790 boards at the time of his jersey retirement ceremony in 2010. He was inducted into TCU's Athletics Hall of Fame in 1975.
