TCU Swim & Dive '85
Block T Association President

What was it like for you, being a student-athlete at TCU?
I became a student-athlete at TCU via the walk-on route. I had swam competitively since the age of seven and moved to Texas when I was ten, due to my dad's job at TCU. At that time Rufe Brewton was the TCU head swim coach, but he also coached an AAU team - thus my first encounter with the Rickel pool. With the boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics combined with my senior year in high school, I was burned out and did not swim that year.  At freshman orientation in the summer of 1981 I met some TCU swimmers, which led me to Coach Richard Sybesma and back to many more laps in the Rickel pool. If it wasn't for him giving me the opportunity to be a student-athlete, I wouldn't be saying any of this today. I am forever grateful to Coach Sybesma.

What are some of your favorite memories being a student-athlete at TCU?
One of the best memories was our swim meet trip to Lubbock, which coincided with the TCU-Tech football game at Jones Stadium. After the meet we stuck around to cheer on the football team to a 39-39 tie. Earlier that season, TCU had beat the #18 Arkansas Razorbacks coming from behind to secure a 28-24 victory. I believe the fall of 1981 was the beginning of our football success today.

What does it mean to you, being a letterwinner at TCU?
It means a great deal to be a TCU letter-winner especially in today's environment with all of the successes of TCU athletics. We feel proud wearing the TCU purple because people throughout the country recognize and respect the path TCU has taken to get us into the spotlight and to be contenders in all of its sport programs. I recently ran the NYC marathon wearing my Horned Frog shirt and visor and loved hearing the many "Go Frogs" cheers along the streets of New York City. My husband, Mike (aka Gonzo/1986 TCU graduate), is a pilot for American Airlines and can always be seen sporting TCU attire everywhere he goes. As a former TCU lacrosse player, he also loves and supports TCU athletics.

You currently serve as President of the Block T Association. What is it that you enjoy about giving back to the Block T?
Having the opportunity to represent TCU as a student-athlete was a dream come true.  My appreciation for what TCU offered and gave to me, I can now return through my membership in the Block T Association. I thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie that the Block T Association promotes which is evident in the Block T tailgates, Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and the various ways it supports current student-athletes and the university as a whole. I am humbled and honored to represent and be associated with an exclusive group of outstanding athletes. Go Frogs!!
